Description :
Awsum Adudu is a seven piece group based in the West of Ireland and describe their music as 'a celebration of world music'.
Founded originally in 1990, the band plays an original blend of African, Afro-Cuban music, with hints of jazz and funk thrown in the mix. The band has played all over Ireland and is comprised of very experienced players. It is truly impossible to keep your hips from swaying and your feet from moving to the live sound of Awsum Adudu.
The band boasts an international line-up of talented players from Ireland, England, Holland and Germany, which adds to the 'Awsum Experience'. One of the major successes of the band is the many Festival appearances they have enjoyed over the years, including the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, The Waterford Spraoi, (five shows in this years Spraoi alone!) twice. The Westport Arts Festival, The Howth Jazz Festival, the Cork Folk Festival, Terryglass Arts Festival, Dunboyne Music Festival and the list goes on!
Awsum Adudu's music has been described as,'original, exciting, danceable and hypnotic’ and they provide a two-hour set of mostly original material, but include favourites from Paul Simon and others.
The name is taken from a Swahili word 'Adudu' which means 'heartbeat, and is used to reflect their many soaring drum and percussion breaks which lift crowds to another level.
